The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.
Guernsey is a place unlike any other, with unique natural features, rich history, and a vibrant community. Here are some of the things that make our island extraordinary:
- We have some of the highest tidal ranges in the world.
- We have some of the strongest coastal currents in the world.
- We receive the full brunt of the Atlantic weather systems.
- We are a lump of various forms of igneous rock protruding from the ocean.
- We have a man-made history that begins in the Neolithic period, spans the Romans and early Britons, right into the modern age.
- We have an almost unique system of Government, parts of which still echo the feudal age.
- We make our own laws according to our needs (and to fit in with international treaties).
- We have an almost unique relationship with the English Crown.
- We operate a top-tier financial services industry.
- Over the centuries, some of the brightest minds in the world have visited, been inspired and/or made our island their home, including artists, poets and writers.
- We have a reputation for constantly evolving our industries to match or stay ahead of global trends.
- The island gives access to beautiful beaches, steep cliffs, woodland, islets and coves along its ~40km coastline, most of which is walkable.
- We were one of only two British territories occupied by the Germans in WW2.
- The island is one of the most densely populated jurisdictions in the world.
- Our small community has produced some big global players, in areas such as sport, trade, horticulture, and the armed forces amongst others.
- Sark, one of the islands in the Bailiwick, was the first internationally recognised 'Dark Sky' Island.
